Getting back to work after 50
Getting back to work or finding work because you have lost your job can be exhausting and depressing. There can be many reasons that one is looking for work at this time in their life. For women, the main reason is that they stopped working to raise their family. Now the children are gone and there is a need to get out of the house, or additional income is needed to educate the family. For men, the main reason at present is loss of job. There may also be a need to get back to work, for economic reasons.
In today's world many of us have lost our jobs due to the economy and job elimination. This creates a new set of issues. Our age and our experience demand higher wages in the minds of employers. Whether true or not, it is difficult for us Boomers to even get an interivew. This assumption results in them hiring younger candidates at a lower wage. It is frustrating that we do not even get a chance to accept or decline an offer.
We can always start our own companies depending on one's skills and the need for services. Many of us have become "consultants". This could mean many things and open up opportunites in some markets. I don't know about everyone else, but my email is flooded with "Work-at Home" offers. For most of them one has to invest large sums of money to make money....and they are not successful.
