Finding a Doctor Who Will Listen - Part 3 of 3

In the months following my mother's diagnosis with emphysema I had complete faith in her doctor. After all, she had been seeing him for a number of years and he seemed nice and quite knowledgeable.

With the continued deterioration of her condition I was losing that faith not only in her doctor, but in the medical industry as a whole and especially in the pharmaceutical industry. After all, it was the pharmaceutical industry that had more than 57,000 prescription medications on the market and not one that cured a disease. My research soon focused on alternative areas of health. I had already lost faith in the medications. It was very obvious that they masked symptoms and did nothing else, no healing, no actual improvement. Using the medications and emphysema treatments and expecting any real improvement in your condition is like running into a burning building and shutting off the alarm thinking that will put the fire out.

The ineffectiveness of the medications and emphysema treatments caused a change in my research focus. I began researching into areas of nutrition, naturopathy, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, holistic approaches and pathology.

It seemed obvious to me that something was growing in my mother's lungs. She had not smoked in more than two years and her emphysema was getting noticeably worse. I realized the deterioration in her condition must be either from a residual pathogen left over from smoking or from the medications and emphysema treatments prescribed for her. Obviously, it could not be from healthy food and supplements.

I confronted my mother's doctor on her next visit. I knew she would not last much longer so I could not have cared less if he was irritated with me, so what! I asked him point blank what was growing in her lungs and even gave some suggestions. He rejected my ideas completely. I did not get mad but I did find another doctor who would listen. At this point I had compiled extensive data on my mother's condition and her recent improvements. I would not sit back and have them ignored.

I mentioned the discussion I had with the doctor to my brother and told him that if we did not find another doctor for my mother she was probably not survive much longer. He got on the phone and began calling every doctor in the yellow pages one after another. He was not giving up until he found a doctor that would listen to my ideas.

After about 50 calls my brother, God bless him, found a doctor who agreed to listen to my ideas and take a look at my documentation of my mother's improvement. This doctor was an osteopath. I am very impressed with these physicians. They actually listen to their patients. What a novel idea. Most of the MDs I encountered were too arrogant to listen to anyone but themselves. It is too bad most of us rely on them for our survival.

This osteopath checked out the information I typed up on the computer. I had three pages I titled, "What I Have Observed." It was a detailed account of my observations concerning my mother's deterioration and improvement and what was going on with respect to diet, supplements, medications and emphysema treatments during these changes.

He read what I had written, followed the links on the internet I included that helped make my case and in the end agreed to prescribe one of the two medications I requested. After a month on that medication he agreed to prescribe the second one if I agreed to have her blood taken once each week so they could test her liver enzymes.

My mom and I made a morning of it. First the 7 am blood test and then the breakfast buffet. Her emphysema was reversing rapidly and her appetite was incredible. She would eat two complete plates of food and go back for melons and fruit. Melons and fruit were on the "Do Not Eat" list while she was very sick but once a week I thought it was fine.

My mother's condition continued improving. By her birthday on December 4, 2008 she was completely well, no signs of emphysema. She had gained all of her weight back, she could sleep through the night without waking and she did not need any supplemental oxygen. She still carried the portable oxygen tank with her for a short time just in case. It was like her security blanket.

I am amazed and thankful to God Almighty for leading me to the information that reversed my mom's emphysema. I could never have done it without Him. He has now allowed me to help more than 1100 other people through the book, "How I Reversed My Mom's Emphysema."

I will not give up until this disease is a thing of the past.
