Motion is Lotion

Do  you ever wake up and feel like the Tin Man?

images-4

After entering the last 3rd of my life, I now find my body talks to me when I get out of bed in the morning. After decades of enjoying a body that did not restrict me from doing exactly what I chose, it was shocking.  I always felt that being in the fitness business would save me forever from feeling stiff and achy.…

Turning 50 - Looking and Feeling Great!

As I age I notice that I do not exercise the way I used to. For one thing, I no longer care as much about the latest fitness trend. I still enjoy the social sports like golf and enjoy swimming, yoga and skiing when I can. The reality is that none of these are consistent. I have never been a runner and quite frankly it hurts my feet, knees and back. So, my regular exercise regimen simply consists of walking almost everyday. I do anywhere from two to five miles.…

To All The “Moms” In Our Lives…

As a young boy I grew up with my circle of friends that I called “the guys”. There were 5 or 6 of us that did almost everything together. We roamed the old neighborhood, played baseball (and football, and basketball), went to the movies together, and we went to the same neighborhood school (we were all in the same class).

We thought, and we still think, that it was the greatest neighborhood to grow up in in the whole world. There were dozens of families with 3,4,5,6 or more kids all…

Lessons from Around the World

Kathmandu, Nepal

This was a new stop on the tour for me and I was excited. I got to take a small Twin Otter plane and visit Mount Everest – Wow! It was a clear, sunny, perfect day for the flight and while life below was crazy chaotic and crowded, up in the air – it was BLISS! We were on Buddha Air – and had the best mountain flight in the world. The stewardess went out of her way to explain each mountain peak, help us take photos and ensure the flight was…

Your Keepers

I grew up in the fifties with practical parents- a Mother, God love her, who washed aluminium foil after she cooked in it, then reused it. She was the original recycle queen, before they had a name for it. A Father who was happier getting old shoes fixed than buying new…

Booming Success

Thursday, July 28, 2011

The Online Free Dictionary defines "boom" as meaning "to grow, develop; progress rapidly; to flourish" a href="http://www.thefreedictionary.com/boom">http://www.thefreedictionary.com/boom>.  So, since we are called "Boomers", we should be growing, developing, progressing rapidly, and flourishing. :)  Do these words describe you?  If not, let me give you a little encouragement.

No matter the situation in which you find yourself, you…

WEIGHT LOSS AND BUSINESS – THE SUCCESS CONNECTION

Do you ever just stop, in the midst of your busy day, and ask yourself the question: why am I do this anyway?! Do you constantly think about the ‘why’ of your business – is it uppermost in your mind. Or, in the midst of chaos (mentally and otherwise), have you lost track of why you do what you do?

As I listened to Bob Green on an interview recently, he was talking about what it takes to succeed at weight loss, in order to live your best life. I…

Ponderings From My Mid-Life Menopause Regret and Remorse Pond

Sipping my Starbucks ‘Tall Coffee In A Grande Cup Packed To The Top With Whipped Cream’ (you must try it, it’s fabulous), the sun peeps out and gives a wink before darting back into it’s dismal hiding place. But no matter, my beverage of choice puts a smile on my face and for the moment I am content.

The music blares above me as caffeine-craved people come and caffeine-saturated people go and I can’t help but turn my attention to the conversations around me, as for some reason…

The Parable of the Pencil

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.

"There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be."

"One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand."

"Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but…

Alzheimers

I have an friend who is two year older than me,  who is suffering from this disease, and I am sad that he is starting to lose his sense of who he is and his memory.   My buddies and I took him for supper in December, one of my friends went to pick him up and when he came into the pub, he saw me and said to me, "You look…

My Ex-Life

My Ex-life

Life is full of surprises, isn’t it? One day I looked in the mirror and saw a young mother of two, and then before I could count the gray hairs, the kids were grown and I had to squint to see myself in the mirror.…

Stop and Smell the Roses

What are you doing that is important is a question I asked the other day. I was interested in the responses and my thanks to those who responded. Sometimes doing what is important means not only doing for others, but doing something for yourself. I believe that if we are to help others, we need to find time to reinvigorate our own soul. I want to share something that helped me today. …

Everyday kindness

Everyday kindnesses are those little thoughtful acts that we all know we should do, but sometimes we just can’t be bothered. Maybe it seems like too much trouble to help your neighbor carry in her groceries or to stop along the freeway to help someone change a tire. The opportunity to help this person will never come again, and you are there for a reason, so go beyond your comfort zone, at least once each day and do something for someone else, just for the heck of it, with no expectations,…
