Age Sensitivity

When we were young, we thought we had the world at our feet. We believed that the hourglass would never empty; that we had a lot of time to go for our dreams, and that we had the health to back it all up. We didn’t think of hip replacements, cataract surgery, arthritic fingers or toes…we just lived life as it came. It wasn’t until I started noticing my own creaking bones and aches and pains that I knew… Continue

This was based on the FDA’s analysis of 17 placebo-controlled trials that studied 5377 elderly patients with dementia-related behavioral disorders; it showed an increased risk of death (1.6-1.7) in… Continue

Olympic Personal Change – The New Extreme Sport

This week a person made an observation of me that stuck with me long enough to think up this concept. He observed that change was really a big part of who I was but noted that most people run the other way due to fear and loathing of change.

Like a fire fighter running into a burning building, I also run to the flame of change. Why is that? What makes a person gravitate to things that frighten other people? It occurred to me that it is a lot like an extreme sport. There is a skill, a… Continue

How's Your Investment Portfolio Doing? Seven Long-Term Indicators

Before Wall Street and the media combined to make investors think of calendar quarters as "short-term" and single years as "long-term", market cycles were used as true tests of investment strategies over the long haul. Bor-ing.

There were four types of standard analysis used by most financial institutions, Peak-to-Peak, and Peak-to-Trough being the most common found in annual reports. There were also basic differences in purpose and perspective in the old days, and a focus on results… Continue

Summer Gratitude as Everything Shifts

On page 19 of my book Ritual As Resource I shared my “Mary Ritual” as the book’s first example of bringing “resource” to an opposite energy (or experience). I described her then (and still do) as: “a friend I’ve known and loved for over twenty years. More pertinent is that I know and deeply feel that Mary loves me unconditionally: In her eyes, I can do absolutely nothing… Continue

How to Explain to Your Mother, Husband, Best Friend That Twitter Is Not a Waste of Time

My brother said to me: “Why would anyone be on Twitter?” Mind you, he’s never been on Twitter and he doesn’t know a thing about it. But he’s a fancy lawyer and thinks he knows what’s what.

In reply, I’ve decided to come up with a list of answers for when someone in your family asks you this question:

1. Getting news updates before the news media

2. Asking technical software/hardware questions and getting… Continue

Boomer Under Attack!

Call the police and get them here quick. My PC is attacking me. It has caused me to have heart surgery (angioplasty) and will soon cost me more as I continue to gain weight and consider bariatric surgery. It is evil as it slowly but surely fattens me up for the kill. It is… Continue

Technology to "AGE RESPONSIBLY". Smart People use Smart Technology!

Technology can enhance the way we live today. We use technology in almost everything we do. If you drove to work today, you already used a computer (car). If you checked your messages, sent emails, typed in information, are reading this, etc...you are using computers to complete every day tasks.

Tonight when you go home to watch a show on DVR (computer) or listen to your IPOD, think about why we enjoy all of these technologies, yet shy away when these same technologies can be used to… Continue
