So what's in a number anyway? Golfers know all too well that on the course numbers matter... and in life, they matter too (sometimes). The number 59 is a magical number to the game of golf. Only 4 golfers on the planet have managed to post 59's during a PGA tour event; Al Geiberger in 1977, Chip Beck in 1991, David Duval in 1999, and Annika Sorenstam in 2001 (LPGA). Up to now, the number 59 in the… Continue

My friend Colleen Wainwright calls "anxiety, my old friend."
We women generally worry more than men
. For example, "While men are bearing the brunt of the job losses, women report much higher levels of fear and worry about their families’ financial security than men do" and women worry more than their husbands about prostate cancer coming… Continue

Almost two-thirds of Americans are suffering from the economic recession
, according to a recent Gallup poll. Well, yes. Worse yet is the mood contagion effect. We instinctively spread and reinforce the fear we feel. It’s our pack mentality. We quickly check the situation for danger. We don’t listen to words. We don’t believe… Continue

This news is sad
, yet not surprising. As women, we are more concerned about our weight (56%) and eating right (36%) than we are worried about getting one of three big killers for women: cancer (23%), heart problems (20%) or diabetes (18%).
That’s what Meredith and NBC Universal discovered in… Continue

From stay-at-home Mom to art teacher to designer of exquisite Ukrainian eggs to author of a book that lands her on The Today Show. That’s quite career ride.
Better still, it led Jane Pollak to her dream job.

At a wedding I attended last Summer on the most southern island of Greece, an American was marrying a Greek woman he met at graduate school. People traveled there from 20 countries. Of the 90 or so guests, all under 30 years of age had visited at least five countries, often for study, work or to visit friends.
After the wedding, held in a small white church on the edge of the water, people gathered for an outdoor dinner on a hilltop. Seven… Continue

He takes a stupid stand. (Translation: he hit my hot button.) My first response is to dislike him. (Apparently that’s a universal reaction.) My distaste shows on my face and in my tone, despite my attempt to cover my feelings in a cloak of civility. Even friends or sympathetic bystanders take a psychic step back.
Naturally he reacts in one of two ways: Stepping Back (saying little, going blank-faced, silent or even walking away) or Escalating Up… Continue

Midlifers and Boomers are reinventing en masse into entrepreneurship after leaving their longtime corporate gigs. But several worries come with that kind of a lifeshift.
Mostly, these new entrepreneurs worry they may be “past it”. After all, isn’t entrepreneurship supposed to be for the young and reckless? Certainly not for the more measured decision making of the midlifer and beyond.
Then there’s that energy thing. While the… Continue

This is a serious book by an accomplished journalist, writer--Howard Gleckman.
'If you are a Boomer, you should buy this book and put it on the coffee table. You will need it in the future to take care of yourself. The notes section of this book, alone, is worth the purchase price. The 22 pages of notes come in the form of a bibliography that you will be referring to over and over in the years ahead.

The other day I found God. On Facebook. I bet you're surprised. I know that I was. I didn't even know that God had a computer.
I bet it's a Mac.
Anyway, I'm scared to look at God's Facebook page. I don't want my hair to turn white or for me to turn to salt or anything like that. I'm wondering, though, if God plays Bejeweled Blitz and I'm wondering if His score is higher than mine.
I hope not. I've spent hours… Continue

Internet marketing training can cover many different aspects of the Internet. And choosing which areas to start learning about can be an overwhelming task in itself.
Let’s simplify this process by planning a “learning” agenda:
• Social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn can be good places to start because, once understood, these do not need that many hours a week for effective Internet marketing.
Twitter appears to be the simplest with… Continue

Hospitals today face ever increasing pressure to quickly discharge their elderly patients to "rehab", which is a code word for a nursing home, and in many cases that facility will be a sub-standard one. Many people have heard me speak about this. Those fortunate clients who have used my services (references available upon request) have experienced very personally what I speak about. Many more will testify to my proven results.
FACT: If an elder enters a hospital with say, a broken… Continue
