Home Care as a Civil Right

Coverage on NPR about Home Care by Joseph Shapiro comes at time that could not be better for North Carolinians, as the state of North Carolina implements changes in its Medicaid programs. The Medicaid Home and Community Based services waiver program, or HCBS, was enabled with the passage of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act in 1981 during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. For the first time then, states were permitted to use long-term care money available through Medicaid to pay for home…See More

Long Term Care Professional

Since 1999, Hearthside Home Care Inc is locally owned and operated, and headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina. Hearthside Home Care was established in 1999 by its founder and owner Tina Glenn, and the late Dr. Robert J. Glenn. A seasoned and compassionate health care professional with 24 years of experience in the management and development of home health care, skilled nursing and assisted living and independent living retirement communities, Tina saw a need for non-medical and companion home care services that was not being met in the Greensboro NC community and surrounding areas. She saw a need for home care services that address the right amount of care at the right time. The company first began offering companion only services but quickly saw the need to expand the services to include hands-on and personal care services. Today, Hearthside Home Care Inc. is recognized as a leader in the Piedmont Triad for non-medical home care and companion services, and as an original developer of the concept of non-medical care.

Hearthside Home Care Inc. is licensed by the state of NC Division of Health Services Regulation. Private payment is accepted. Hearthside Home Care Inc. is also a certified NC Medicaid PCS home care and CAP home care provider. The counties served are Guilford, Davidson, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, and Forsyth.

Tina Glenn is President of Hearthside Home Care Inc. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in health administration from Wilkes University, and has taken additional graduate studies at the Yale School of Public Health. The operations and management team in the Greensboro office includes Roget Berendes, Director, Maria Doebler, RN Supervisor, and Lisa Johnson, CNA Program Supervisor.

In working with individuals in the Gen Y cohort, employees, as well as customers, the major lesson we have learned is how utterly and completely tuned into, and dependent upon technology, this group is. For the most part, this group of individuals lives, breathes and sleeps almost entirely with the assistance of technology (iPhones, Blackberries, internet, email, et al). This presents many challenges mainly in the form of difficulties with live, in-person human interaction in real-life, and…

Hi Tina:

Thank you for your friend invitation! I hope we can network by exchanging ideas regarding elder care. My contribution will likely come from a legal perspective.

On another subject, very nice picture!

Hi Tina, Thanks for reaching out. Good to see another N Carolinian! I work for the state of NC full time & then pursue music & other creative activities around the rest of the clock. Many of my performances are in senior & healthcare residential facilities. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you through my creative focus. Always good to network.

Hi Tina - I look forward to exchanging ideas with you. Hopefully I will have more free time next week. I wasn't aware of the issues re: Medicaid and in-home care for the disabled in NC. I will definitely look into it some more. Thanks for sharing. Maria
