Royce Shook commented on William Knegendorf's group BOOMER BEST WORK
"William, I know that some people create and write in journals to help them focus, plan, and shape their day. I don't do this.  I have tried this a few times over the years, but I find the process does not work for me. I believe…"

Develop the mind of equilibrium

Your worst enemy cannot harm you as much as your own unguarded thoughts. Develop the mind of equilibrium. You will always be getting praise and blame, but do not let either affect the poise of the mind: follow the calmness, the absence of pride. - Sutta Nipata...In changing our thoughts we can start to change our view of  the world and ourselves, we cannot through thought change any medical conditions that we have. I have a friend who believes that positive thinking helped her survive cancer, I…See More

Stop and Smell the Roses

What are you doing that is important is a question I asked the other day. I was interested in the responses and my thanks to those who responded. Sometimes doing what is important means not only doing for others, but doing something for yourself. I believe that if we are to help others, we need to find time to reinvigorate our own soul. I want to share something that helped me today. As I walked along the Fraser river, I heard a cry in the air, I looked up and watched as two eagles came…See More

Everyday kindness

Everyday kindnesses are those little thoughtful acts that we all know we should do, but sometimes we just can’t be bothered. Maybe it seems like too much trouble to help your neighbor carry in her groceries or to stop along the freeway to help someone change a tire. The opportunity to help this person will never come again, and you are there for a reason, so go beyond your comfort zone, at least once each day and do something for someone else, just for the heck of it, with no expectations, no…See More

"Christmas is a time of celebration and reflection when we consider our blessings as one year ends and we look forward to the new year. After many years of asking mysel this question I have concluded that I must begin each day with a new…"

So my question is: what are you doing that is of importance?

As we move closer to Xmas, I have been thinking about life -- a pretty common activity for many of us as we approach our mid 60's I think. As I have done that and read my lists and books over time two good themes developed. The first is "I'm blessed -- and you are, too." The second is that people aren't simply individuals-- they make choices to belong to each other in communities -- these can be family, faith communities, work, friends, and many others. Each year life seems a little more…See More

Wecome and Hello

II think this is an interesting idea and a good opportunity to connect to other like minded people. I would invite you to visit my Blog, I'M A SONIC BOOMER NOT A SENIOR...The idle musings of a 60 plus youngster, who realized that as an early boomer (born in 1946) our views, ideas and actions are important to society because the later bloomers those born between 1948 and 1960, will come to be like us sooner rather than later. Add to this the realization that I don't think of myself as a senior and I am sure there are many others who have the same mind set.

Alzheimers

I have an friend who is two year older than me,  who is suffering from this disease, and I am sad that he is starting to lose his sense of who he is and his memory.   My buddies and I took him for supper in December, one of my friends went to pick him up and when he came into the pub, he saw me and said to me, "You look…
