Writing the Book…

Over the summer of 2005 Jon and I worked on the manuscript, with me in New Hampshire and him in Massachusetts. I would pull all the content together and then do the rough drafts. He polished them up. Thank goodness for email. We did have to meet several times during those months though, which was great since I could visit with my grandsons too.

The draft manuscript went in on time and early in 2006 we began working on revisions. With a publishing date of July 25, 2006, we needed to get things w… Continue

From Idea to Reality

Shortly after I moved to New Hampshire, my son Jon, who is a free-lance writer with six published books to his credit and more on the way, and I began talking about my writing a book. He felt, as I did, that lifelong learning for older adults was an important topic, especially given the coming wave of Baby Boomers who were beginning to look at the quality of their life after work.

Over the next few months we bonded and learned more about each other as tends to happen whenever a group of like-minded women get together… Continue

My Work with Women

One of the many stages of grief is the feeling of being deeply hurt. The person you loved has left you and you feel abandoned. For me, after the death of my husband, that feeling meant that for quite some time I felt very negative toward men. In my grief, I think I blamed all men for what had happened to me. So it was only natural that I would turn toward women for the nurturing and care that I needed. After all, a woman had not betrayed me as a man had done. Irrational I know, but during the ea… Continue

Follow Your Bliss!

Follow your bliss! At age 64, I never thought I’d be living these famous words by Joseph Campbell. But when I realize that I’m doing the work I love from my home, that I have wonderful children and grandchildren, and that I’m sharing my life with a very special man - well, to me that’s bliss!

As a first-time author, I guess you could say that my whole life, and certainly the last 15 years in particular, have set the stage for the point that I’ve now reached. It hasn’t been easy that’s for sure.… Continue
