I have a group on Facebook devoted to helping others
monetize their niche. I would be honored if we became friends and you joined my group.
A Little About MeIt was probably the great American business philosopher Jim Rohn from whom I first heard the phrase, “profits are better than wages.” I knew this implicitly my whole life. Wasn’t the paper route I had as an elementary school kid, the “landscaping” business as a teenager, the karate classes I taught at the community college, my consulting firm [James Alvino & Associates] founded in 1990 more ME than the guy punching the proverbial time clock just to make ends meet?
Like many of you, I’ve been there and done that, built somebody else’s dream at the expense of my own. Hey, but I know how to leverage and parley. I built an expertise too in strategic planning and creative problem solving (CPS); honed my training, presentation, and communication skills; and developed the passion to strike out on my own.
If you need to know my pedigree, here it is: I got “poor dad’s” advice a la Robert Kiyosaki, got good grades, went to the best schools, got terminal degrees (Ph.D. in philosophy from Boston College), and set out to make my mark in the world.
I’ve always been an achiever with a strong pursuit of excellence. My Best Self in high school was Best Athlete, in college Best Honors Student, in grad school Best Ph.D. Candidate (received "Highest Distinction"), in business Best Company President, Best CEO of three companies, as a writer Best Educational Journalist (multiple publications and awards), and as an entrepreneur, The Best Entrepreneur I Can Be!
One of the greatest lessons I ever learned at home was persistence and perseverance. Success is not a sprint but a marathon. There are no failures, only lessons. The glass is neither half empty nor half full, it is overflowing with possibility and opportunity. I’m fond of quoting Wayne Gretzky, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Take the shot!
A Little About My Personal Passion : The Story of SagaraThis is a
memoir not an autobiography (a distinction made by the late Norman Mailer in an interview late in his life). Or as Isabel Allende might say of a memoir, "You are the storyteller of your own life, and you can create your own legend or not."
I've subtitled the book with a marketing tag for Boomers, but in truth the content, experiences and lessons transcend such demographics and their limitations. We're all the same Self regardless of age or Age.
I think the book's structure is unique: it is both thematic and chronological at the same time with "Flashforwards" that will take you on "time travels" that support the thematic content being addressed. Each chapter begins with a prologue in which Sagara (my spiritual name in Sanskrit meaning "ocean") reminisces about or takes a psychic journey that sets the tone for the remainder of the chapter. Some of these "journeys" were guided in deep meditation. I am at heart a mystic...
However I do not espouse a religious position in the book, although you will see I claim India and the East as my spiritual roots. I am a believer... and what I believe is that the Universal Truths and profound experiences described herein -- despite the Idiosyncrasies of my personal story -- are common to ALL religions.
Likewise, there are many meditation, contemplation, and visioning techniques explained in the book; there are sections devoted to mantra repetition and other spiritual practices that can help deepen your faith and your spiritual journey... whatever it may be.
The entire memoir – what has been written and what is yet to be written – is my calling, my destiny and legacy. I believe that some of its contents – particularly the recounts of the numerous "Shaktipat Intensives" – have the capacity [through the Guru Principle] to give you, the reader, an actual experience. The way I envision it, when you put down this book, you will have taken my journey and a trip of your own!
