Cathy commented on Lynne Butler's blog post Do lawyers tell clients to make wills so that lawyers can make more money?
"I will help you continue to spread the word.  As a retirement transition coach, one of the top things someone early in retirement should complete is an estate plan.  I find most people don't want to confront their mortality, but not…"

Cathy commented on Charles F. Miller's blog post Changing Landscape of Retirement
"change expectations-I agree, but would add that people need to think of retirement solely as a time of not working. More retirees will need and want to continue earn money, even if on a part time basis."

What's different about retirement than you expected?

My husband retired on Oct. 1. It's been an interesting change. He was part of a buyout, so there were many who retired when he did. Almost all of them are back working. I talk to people who are younger and they can't believe someone would retire and then go back to work. Some went back to work for money, but many for other reasons.I'd like to know how retirement is different than you thought it'd be? What's better? What's worse about retirement than you thought? What advice would you give to…See More

Healthcare Costs for the Over 50 Looking for Work

We've all heard the stories that one of the reasons older workers don't get hired is because of their higher healthcare costs. Did you know that's a complete myth?Think about it. The people who spend more time seeing doctors are families with young children. Unless you have a serious ailment, most people in over 50 and into their sixties don't go to the doctor nearly has much as people with young children. My husband and I both get our yearly physicals and that's the only time we see a…See More

Lessons from Susan Boyle

Along with everyone else on the planet, I’ve been captivated by the saga of Susan Boyle. She epitomizes the story of the ugly duckling who sings like the beautiful swan. While the tale, at the time of this writing, seems to have ended on a bittersweet note, there are lessons we can learn that apply to achieving a successful retirement. As the story has unfolded, it was revealed that Susan has spent her life being painfully shy. On her mother’s deathbed, she evidently promised to try to get on…See More

Retirement Home-Where to Live?

The concept of home takes on a completely new meaning in retirement. In fact, home is considered on of the foundation elements, in addition to health and finances.

Right now, the primary question is what do we want in our new home? Not just the home, but what factors determine the community and surrounding area? These are all questions to consider.

Research shows very few people actually move to a new retirement location. I'd like to know if it's something you are… Continue

Senior Health

I did something for myself today. No, not the usual indulgence of chocolates or flowers. I actually did something important. At first, I was reluctant to discuss it, because it comes under the heading that is traditionally considered unmentionable. Life over 50 gets complicated and sometimes we need to discuss unpleasant things.

I had a colonoscopy this morning. The reason I decided to discuss it is that many people don’t have the procedure. I’m lucky I have insurance and quite… Continue

That's a good story about developing the product.I do coach and love it. My focus at present and for a while to come is on social media in business. So many people who do not want to retire, or not completely, could be very empowered in business terms by what is available now. I use my coaching skills there. With a group of colleagues I've submitted a proposal to do a session on Boomers at BlogWorld & New Media Expo in Vegas this coming October.
